A Taste of History: Taco Bell’s Iconic Throwback Menu 🌮 🔔
1960s – Tostada
Part of the original menu, the Taco Bell Tostada was one of only six menu items at the first TB location which opened in Southern California in 1962. Their Tostada is a classic dish with a crispy corn tostada shell topped with beans, red sauce, lettuce, and shredded cheese. The TB Tostada is priced at $2.19.
1970s – Green Sauce Burrito
Though this one hasn’t been on the TB menu in quite a while, it’s the “most hacked” according to the restaurant chain. Taco Bell’s Green Sauce Burrito comes with refried beans, onions, shredded cheese, and, of course, green sauce. The sauce is made from green chili, tomatillos, jalapenos, and spices. The burrito is $2.49.
1980s – Meximelt
This is one of the most requested items to make the list. The Taco Bell Meximelt comes with seasoned beef, pico de gallo, and a three-cheese blend of mozzarella, cheddar, and Monterey jack all inside a tortilla. The TB Meximelt is $2.99.
1990s – Gordita Supreme
Gorditas were an instant hit when Taco Bell added them to the menu in the 1990s. The Gordita Supreme includes a flatbread filled with seasoned beef, reduced-fat sour cream, lettuce, and a three-cheese blend of mozzarella, cheddar, and Monterey jack topped with diced tomatoes. The TB Gordita Supreme is $2.99.
The Gordita Supreme is also available as part of a new $7 Luxe Cravings Box along with a Beefy 5-Layer Burrito, Double Stacked Taco, chips and nacho cheese sauce, and a medium drink.
2000s – Caramel Apple Empanada
The only dessert item to make the Decades Menu cut – the Caramel Apple Empanada is another often-requested TB item. The crispy golden exterior is filled with apple pieces and creamy caramel filling. Taco Bell’s Caramel Apple Empanada is $2.99.
