What Is Pi?

Pi (π) is a mathematical constant that represents the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter. No matter the size of the circle, this ratio is always approximately 3.14—which is why we celebrate Pi Day on March 14 (3/14)!

Pi is an irrational number, meaning it goes on forever without repeating. Mathematicians have calculated it to trillions of digits, but for most everyday uses, 3.14 (or 3.14159) is enough. While pi is essential in geometry and engineering, Pi Day is all about celebrating with pizza, pie, and fun math-themed deals!
