Is the AAA24 Membership Worth the Hype? Breaking Down the Perks and Costs

AAA24 Membership Screen

Independent entertainment company A24 is celebrated for its eclectic array of films and TV shows, including hits like “Everything Everywhere All At Once” and “Euphoria.” In 2022, they expanded their offerings with the AAA24 membership program, which promises movie tickets, merchandise discounts, and exclusive content for a monthly or annual fee. Recently, the program was relaunched with expanded perks – and pricing. But is it worth the cost? Here’s a closer look at the benefits, pricing, and what members have to say.

The Main Attraction: Free Movie Tickets

The biggest draw of the AAA24 membership is the promise of free movie tickets. Members get a free ticket for every A24 movie released on opening weekend at select theaters, including AMC, Regal, and Alamo Drafthouse. With A24 releasing nearly 20 films in 2024 and at least 18 anticipated for 2025, regular moviegoers can easily recoup the membership cost.

Other Benefits

In addition to tickets, members receive:

  • $5 monthly credits for use on merch or digital purchases, which accumulate up to $25.
  • A birthday gift of their choice from the A24 store, (subscribers say these items have an estimated value between $20 and $60).
  • 10% off merchandise and access to exclusive merch drops.
  • Quarterly zines, offering behind-the-scenes insights.
  • Giveaways, early screenings, and exclusive content, all accessible via the app.

Price of Admission

The pricing structure for an AAA24 is simple – $9.99 a month or $99 for the year. For avid A24 fans, especially those who watch multiple films per year, the ticket benefit alone makes the subscription a strong value.

Coming Attractions

Deciding on a subscription might hinge on A24’s upcoming slate. Highlights for 2025 include:

“Death of a Unicorn”: In this dark comedy, a father (Paul Rudd) and his teenage daughter (Jenna Ortega) accidentally hit and kill a unicorn while en route to a weekend retreat hosted by his billionaire boss (Richard E. Grant). The discovery of the unicorn’s miraculous healing properties leads to a series of events where corporate greed clashes with the supernatural. The film also stars Téa Leoni and Will Poulter.

“Eddington”: Directed by Ari Aster, this modern western dark comedy follows a couple (Austin Butler and Emma Stone) stranded in a small New Mexico town during the pandemic. Initially welcomed, the town reveals a sinister side by nightfall, leading to unexpected and eerie developments. Joaquin Phoenix stars as the small town’s sheriff who has bigger ambitions.

“High and Low”: In this contemporary remake of Akira Kurosawa’s 1963 classic, directed by Spike Lee, a music mogul (Denzel Washington) experiences a dramatic fall from grace after a kidnapping scheme goes awry, delving into themes of power, redemption, and societal divides.

“Smashing Machine”: Directed by Benny Safdie, this biographical drama chronicles the life of mixed martial arts and UFC champion Mark Kerr (Dwayne Johnson), exploring his rise in the fighting world and his personal battles outside the ring, with support from his girlfriend (Emily Blunt).

“Marty Supreme”: Directed by Josh Safdie, this quasi-biopic delves into the life of fictionalized table-tennis champion Marty Supreme (Timothée Chalamet), capturing his eccentric personality and the vibrant world of competitive ping-pong, with notable performances by Fran Drescher and Gwyneth Paltrow.

Audience Reviews

So, what do users think about the subscription and its perks?  Like anything, the membership has been met with mixed reviews on social media. Some belabor the cost of merch making the $5 credit and 10% discount less attractive. Others find it a great way to save on tickets and see quality films throughout the year. Here are some members’ reviews of the program in their own words.

The Good

“I mean I got [a] ‘Green Knight’ collectors edition for free with no shipping for my birthday gift, so it’s almost already paid itself out in value,” – UgandanWarlord via Reddit

“Zines, free tickets, discounts and access to presales for new merch, access to merch only for subscribers, and a free item from the A24 store on your birthday. Well worth the money.” – timidobserver8 via Reddit

The Bad

“Only NYC and LA locals get tickets to early screenings. I’ve complained about that multiple times to them, and nothing,” – the_real_skies via Reddit

“I had it for about 8 months and most of it was just them taking 5 bucks from me each month with no real benefits. The zines were fine but I think I only received 3 in that span and the movie tickets I was never able to use.” – contrahall via Reddit

The Ugly

“I always forget I have it until I check my bank statements,” – messofaman9 via Reddit.

The AAA24 membership is a strong value for A24 enthusiasts who frequently attend their films and enjoy exclusive merchandise and content. However, it may fall flat for casual fans or those outside major cities who can’t fully utilize the perks. Whether it’s worth the investment ultimately depends on your movie-watching habits and passion for all things A24.
