If you like saving money on beauty products (who doesn’t?), then you’ll love this deal. Beauty box subscriptions aren’t new, and I’ve tried a few over the years. Sometimes I’d find a product I loved, other times I’d just use up the samples and move on. I recently found out that Walmart has its own beauty box subscription and it’s cheaper than any I’ve seen before so I decided to give it a try.

Signing Up To Save
Subscribing to Walmart’s beauty box was easy enough. On the Walmart Beauty Box site, subscribing is pretty much the only option—aside from reading FAQs and how it works.
You’ll also see the price upfront—$6.98. Yep, this beauty box is less than half the price of brands like Ipsy and Macy’s and a fraction of the cost of Birchbox and FabFitFun.
The box comes four times a year so each is dedicated to a different season with five to seven mini or full-size items. When I signed up, Winter 2024 was still available so I added it to my cart and checked out. With tax, my order came out to $7.57 to be charged every three months. My first two orders will be closer together since I got the winter box in March at the tail end of the season.
Beauty Profile Building
One more tip before we get to the beauty box goodies! I didn’t realize there was a beauty profile to fill out until after I received my first box but I would suggest filling it out right away so the box can be curated based on your answers.
Once you log into your account, you’ll see “Update Beauty Profile” so click that instead of ignoring it like I did. You can change your answers at any time as well.
The profile asks for information you might expect like:
- Skin Tone – with 12 colors to choose from.
- Skin Concerns – you can choose multiples including aging, acne, oiliness, and a few others.
- Hair Type – you can choose multiples including straight, wavy, curly, fine, thick, and more.
- Hairstyle Techniques
- Hair Color
- Number of Products in Your Beauty Routine – I wasn’t sure if they just meant skincare or everything so I picked a middle-ish range of 7 – 9. I wonder if anyone uses 16+ and how long that takes…
- How Much You Spend on Beauty Products Each Month
- Why Did you Sign Up
- Tell Us More About Yourself – you can choose multiple options like “I am new to Walmart,” “I listen to podcasts,” “I like natural/organic products,” and more.

Winter Wonders
As expected, my Walmart Beauty Box arrived with six items inside. There were two full size items and four minis. The packaging is pretty simple – a pink cardboard box lined with tissue paper. Some of the products came in their own packaging while others were loose. Everything arrived in good condition and ready to use!
Here’s what I received, including sizes, full-size retail prices, and each item’s value. I’ve put them in order from the most useful/exciting to the least – in my opinion, of course.
E.l.f. Skin Suntouchable Invisible SPF 35
Full or Mini: Full – 1.7 fl oz.
Retail: $14 at Walmart
Value: $14
I was the most excited to see this product as I’ve used it on and off and kind of forgot it existed. With more outdoor time on the horizon, I definitely need to keep sun protection in mind and e.l.f. is a brand I’ve been happy with in the past.
The consistency of this sunscreen is really unique. E.l.f. describes it as a “gel” but it feels a bit like a smooth coconut oil without any slick residue. It’s meant to be used at the end of your skincare routine before your makeup. When I’ve used it in the past I wore minimal makeup over it – just powder and mascara and it worked great. The primer quality makes my pores less noticeable and my skin has an overall smoother look when I apply it. There’s no fragrance added to this SPF but it naturally has a faint aroma that smells like, well, sunscreen.
I would have expected to see this in a spring or summer box but I was happy to get it all the same.

Olive & June Quick Dry Polish in Penny
Full or Mini: Full – .30 fl oz.
Retail: $7.48 at Walmart
Value: $7.48
Described as “metallic copper,” this polish has a lot less orange than the photos online portray it – which I was happy about. It looks more bronze or even close to a rose gold in certain lighting. I tried to capture that in photos with natural light above. It does, in fact, dry quickly and I found any tackiness was gone in less than two minutes. I preferred the look best after two coats but even one added a nice sparkly touch. The shimmery quality made me think of New Year’s Eve so it makes sense why this one made it in the winter box.
Paris Hilton for Women Eau de Parfum
Full or Mini: Mini – .05 fl oz.
Retail: $26.97 at Walmart for Full (1.7 fl oz.)
Value: 79¢
A nice item for my on-the-go bag, I like this Paris Hilton fragrance a lot more than I would have expected. I was imagining something fruity or sweet smelling but it’s a much more subtle aroma. It’s got a light floral note like gardenia with just a hint of woodsy musk.

Physicians Formula Butter Glow Bronzer Serum
Full or Mini: Mini – .08 fl oz.
Retail: $14.98 at Walmart for Full (1 fl oz.)
Value: $1.20
I’m not well-versed at using bronzer and at first glance this one looked really dark for my pale winter skin. I was pleasantly surprised that the formula went on very sheer and could be built up as needed. I added a couple drops to my foundation and didn’t see a huge difference- just an overall warmer look.
Cerave Intensive Moisturizing Body Lotion
Full or Mini: Mini – 1 fl oz.
Retail: $16.97 at Walmart for Full (12 fl oz.)
Value: $1.41
Cerave is a trusted brand with affordable products that are gentle on sensitive skin – so I’ve tried a lot of them, including this one. This moisturizer is on the thick side so I wouldn’t use it on my face – although the label says it’s suitable for face and body. The cold winter months left my hands dry and my nails brittle so this is a nice little bottle to keep on my desk or in my car to remind myself to slather some on.
Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleanser
Full or Mini: Mini – 1 fl oz.
Retail: $8.78 at Walmart for Full (8 fl oz.)
Value: $1.10
The Cetaphil item was the only one not mentioned on the accompanying pamphlet so I imagine I got it because of my late-in-the-season order. This is another product I’ve used before. It’s really gentle on skin with a very light texture. If I was looking for an everyday face wash this sample would come in handy. But for full make-up days/nights, I’d look for something with more cleaning power.
The Pros
The biggest perk of this beauty box? The price! When I did all the math, the value came out to nearly $26 ($25.98 to be exact) for a savings of over $18 off the retail value. The full size samples were each worth over the box price of $6.98 so even using one of them makes the box a good deal – and I’ve already used both.
Another selling point of the Walmart Beauty Box, for me, was trying products I can actually afford. When I previously did beauty box subscriptions, it was always disappointing to fall in love with a luxe item and find it didn’t fit my everyday budget. The regular price for the items in this box were all under $30 but still included trustworthy brands like e.l.f., Olive & June, and Physician’s Formula.
If I do end up wanting to stock up on the items I received, there’s a link to “Last season’s must-haves” at the top of the Walmart Beauty Box website so I can easily find links to the items on Walmart.com – pretty clever of them. You can also shop past boxes so you can sample a box before you commit to subscription.

The Cons
There’s likely to be some items that aren’t as exciting – basic moisturizers and cleansers. Since I ordered late in the season, I probably got more of those than usual. The pamphlet that came in the box (seen above) lists several items I would have been more excited to try:
- Eos 24H Moisture Super Balm
- Covergirl Outlast Lipstain
- No. 7 Life & Luminate Serum
- Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula Shimmer Radiance Body Oil
- Tangle Teezer Essential Detangler Brush
- Being Nourish + Shine Shampoo and Conditioner
The Mehs
This box didn’t feel very winter-y to me. The shimmery body oil (I didn’t receive), bronzer, and SPF, seem more like spring/summertime items. Although, the color of the nail polish and intensive moisturizer did have winter vibes. Overall, it didn’t really matter to me but branding the boxes by the season seems a little odd.
One other small annoyance is not having a password to login to the Walmart Beauty Box website. When you click sign in you have to provide your email address and are sent a code each time to get to your account.
Final Thoughts
For the price, this beauty box can’t be beat. With a handful of items, it’s likely you’ll find something you’ll want to use yourself or even as a gift. I’ll be curious to see what spring’s box brings and I shouldn’t have to wait too long. I’ll be back with a review when it arrives!
