Father’s Day is Sunday, June 18 this year, so it’s time to get your special plans in motion to make it a day to remember. Dad’s can be so lovable and in return, kids have the deep desire to give them the best gift possible. But with a child’s budget, there’s likely not much they can do to celebrate the way they truly want to. With a little digging and big imaginations, there are ways to celebrate this mega man with little to no spending required. Here are five ways to get you started and thinking to show dad how much he’s appreciated.
Create a Game Day
Most guys are a fan of some sort of sport and where there are kids there are baseball bats, balls and other equipment. Set up a physical game day in your own yard. Invite additional dads and their kids to join in. The more the merrier! You could even take this event to a nearby park if you want to spread out and have an official playing field. Pack up a cooler filled with water, healthy drinks and whatever you have on hand. Keeping it cheap, but true to a ballpark theme, place hotdogs in a thermos of hot water. When you get hungry they’ll be ready. No matter which team scores the most points, every dad will come home feeling like a winner!
Work at the Car Wash
A dreaded task for any tired, hard-working, stressed-out dad is keeping the car clean. So, kids, gather the buckets, sponges and old toothbrushes to give dad the surprise of a shiny, brand new looking car for Father’s Day! Make it a fun event by playing the song “Car Wash” as you dance, sing, scrub and detail to present this sparkling gift your dad will love!
Keep Cool Dads…Cool!
Whatever you do to celebrate Father’s Day, give dad time to kick back and enjoy his favorite beverage. Plan ahead with the gift of a koozie that is sentimental and heartwarming while it keeps his drink ice cold. Kids grow fast so instead of tossing old insulated winter coats, cut a piece of the sleeve that will fit the can then fold and securely sew or glue the cut edge. Save a lid that will fit inside the sleeve or cut a circle from sturdy plastic, cork or any substance that will level and secure the can once a drink is in the homemade koozie. Oh, the memories that drink will serve!
Keep it Simple
If your dad is tight on space, simply give him the sentiments of your heart! Click here for free printables that will turn into a bundle of unique messages written by his kids but presented in true dad-like form that will be the perfect tools to touch his heart!
Be Extra Sweet
We’ve seen the cards made with candy bars and fitting sayings. So, this year, follow that lead but this time with a twist! Search the pantry, with mom‘s help of course. Gather items such as a box of brownie mix, a box of Jell-O, pudding and other fitting goodies. Cut out a square, rectangle or circle from cardstock or poster board. Make it a little larger than your chosen item with room to add handwritten, heartfelt words of why your dad is so sweet. To those thoughts, include a promise to make and serve the attached treat whenever dad chooses.
